M-100 Events

Lode Fest 2017 Rhinebeck New York
Jack English
It is not too early to begin our individual plans to attend this event. Chris has provided the dates of Thursday, September 28 to Sunday, October 1, 2017. The meeting hotel is the Beekman Arms & Delamater Inn in historic Rhinebeck, NY. Rates begin at $189 per night plus applicable taxes. The phone number is (845) 876 - 7077, (ext 0.) Callers must refer to the "M-100 Car Club" and the arrival date of our group in order to get our group rate. Hopefully more information will appear on this web site soon. Several of us from the Left Coast are already making plans to travel together.

This is two months later. The program and registration are in the new edition #62 of the Lode Star. We also MUST have the registration form appear on our website home page. Who can make that happen?

Still have so much to learn about my 6.9 and who better than the M-100 group. By the way of Portland, the shared experiences by the likes of Kip ( great write up in Lode Star ), Jack ( thanks for the 6.3 ride ), Mike ( the Mercedes version of Mr. Goodwrench and letting me hold the flashlight ) and Luis ( youth, wisdom and all around good-guy ), have me looking forward to this event.

Is there any kind of itinerary/plan setup yet for the weekend? I'm tempted to come out for the event, but since I would be flying out without my car, I'm uncertain if it's worth the trip.

Well now that's just too obvious, how am I supposed to catch that? :)

I suppose this is what I get for going directly to the forums and not paying much mind to the main page.

It's clearly worth the trip. I am attending both Lode Star and Pagoda events this year without my cars. While I wish there was more 6.9 focus, I have never been disappointed by the people.
FEMA
It's definitely worth the trip Matt! I take it you've never been, but I can assure you that it won't disappoint. Apparently Clayton knows this already[;)]

There will be some interesting 6.9's in Rhinebeck...I can attest to that [;)]

Is Lodefest exclusively M100 cars, or is it all Mercedes? Just curious how big of an event it is.

Matt: The emphasis is on the M-100 powered cars but we had 2 W112 cars in Portland. The Lode Fest is for anyone interested in these cars and, this year, interested in touring the Hudson River Valley. A few folks attend even in rental cars. You are welcome, of course.

Starting to make my plans. Which airport is best for arrival?
Jack English
Today I looked for a registration form on the website.

Cannot find one!

Who can make this happen?

Pretty hard to have a meet without being able to register --I looked at the event a couple of weeks ago under 'Home' page and thought there was something missing but it didn't click -only hotel registration is available

Has anyone actually registered Jack?

mpm
Jack English
Yes, we have about five couples registered. I will be coming alone this year as Teri will be in Italy or Spain at that time.

The road trip following the Lode Fest is equally attractive.

O.K. I have a PDF file that I received several months ago from Chris but I do not know how to place it on the home page and I don't have administrator status anyway. Who can do this?

Jack English

Jack,
Can you send it to Al? He should be able to attach it.
Jack English
Yes, of course. Will Al know why he is receiving this again?

Jack English

If he has received it before and hasn't put it on the website, maybe he can't. I don't know if there is any way of putting a pdf on the website. Al is the only one I know of who can do anything to the website since Luis retired as webmaster. I guess it makes sense to tell him why you are sending it when you do.

Gentlemen,

I got a note from Chris on the 16th with the attachment. Unfortunately i've been busy but I should be able to take care of this sometime this week.

Thanks

With best regards

Al

Jack English
I just sent out an email with registration form attached to attendees of recent events. If anyone else needs a form, send me a note.

Jack, the registration form has been up on the website for over a week now.

Where do I find it?

Ali, I am so sorry; your are right. I have the icon on my home page but it always comes up: M-100.co. How do I get rid of that?

Jack English

alabbasi
Jack,

You can always delete the icon but whether M-100.co or M-100.cc, they should go to the same site.

With best regards

Al

Jack English
No, Ali, the M-100.cc has the registration form but M-100.co does not. I have no idea how many people sign in to the M-100.co site by mistake. I think all other posts appear both places.

Jack English

Jack it goes to the same site. Your browser is probably caching files on that link from a prior session. Press F5 while on the page and it will refresh.

I'm adding the links for the event info as well as the pdf for registration:

http://www.m-100.cc/Events/Lodefest2017.pdf

http://www.m-100.cc/Events/LodeFest2017_RegistrationForm.pdf

Both can be found by clicking "Home" above. At the "Home" page, lower left corner, you will see a photo of Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. Next to that are the links as above.

Registrations are slow to come in. This makes it difficult to plan dinners and the other activities. Please let us know your intents even if the payments come later.

I'm very much planning to. The only reason I haven't committed is that I'm currently house shopping, and I know if I book a room/flight/etc. we'll wind up with our closing set for that window of time.

I'll math out how much I expect it to cost (flight, car rental, hotel, etc), and provided I can budget that amount without impacting my home purchase, I'll formally register.

I had a delayed closing of a refinance once. We had a Hawaii trip planned well in advance but the title company switched dates. We basically said: Hold it for two weeks or so. The title company found someone in Maui to handle the papers, sent by overnight express. That worked. Hey! You are the buyer; you are in charge.

Unfortunately Gerry and I won't be able to make it to Lode Fest this year. A good friends 50th birthday celebration clashes with Lode Fest dates.
We will miss catching up with our M100 friends and hope you all have a wonderful meet!

Are there any "technical" events scheduled? I see a concours but cannot find additional tech stuff. Sounds like a wonderful long weekend but with only a concours I'm on the fence.

Registrations are coming in painfully slowly with only a month to go. Check with the hotel for availability of reservations. Karl and Ruth Middelhauve are bringing a SWB 600 with Tremec 6 speed and turbocharger. Gotta see this!

There are facilities planned for hands-on technical sessions throughout the day Saturday, including some lift access. These will be fine-tuned nearer the date to reflect attendee interests. There will even be a dyno on hand for those brave enough to want to verify the cardio health of their chariot...

So far there promises to be a good mix of USA and Euro M-100 engined cars present: 600's, 6.3's and 6.9's, several unusual examples, including turbo and supercharged, as well as a sub-10k mile 6.9 and Briggs Cunningham's favorite daily driver.

Chris.
Jack English
Another "Gotta see": registration received today from Frank Mallak of Export, PA. He is bringing a 1980 Brabus prepared 6.9. More registrations are coming in. A not to miss event!

So, I got approval to take the weekend off for this event. Thinking of booking out several days off and flying into an airport other than New York (Boston, perhaps?), and driving to the event. Anyone else considering such a path, or have recommendations on an airport to fly into? I haven't been to the East Coast before.

The nearest bigish airport is Hartford CT. The easiest NYC area airport traffic wise is probably Newark.
Chrisl
Albany Int'l Airport (ALB) is also 50mins drive, and Stewart Int'l. (SWF) is about 35mins. Boston is 3hrs by car.
There is also frequent Amtrak service from NY Penn Station to Rhinecliff (RHI) or Metro North from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie. Just let us know in advance and someone will come fetch you.

Cheers,
Chris

If I am back in Connecticut that weekend I would love to attend the Concours. However, I will not have my 600 with me as it is in San Francisco. I will endeavour to at least show up with a Benz.

Is there anyone who is in charge of Lodefest 2017? I have emailed Mr. English with no response. I would like to attend but have questions? Would someone please email or call/text me. 610-972-9694.

Thank you for your help.

Jack is driving cross country at the moment --east of Chicago somewhere.

As Art replied, Chris is your only contact at this late date.

Just received notice yesterday (construction delay) that I am now open for this weekend. I booked my flight today and arrive Friday 10am at SWF (Newburgh). Hope to catch up in Rhinebeck....at least for dinner. Is there a train or bus line there?

Having returned from the event let me take the time to thank Chris and Monique for the wonderful job they did planning and hosting and especially to Monique for her history tour and knowledge of the area and the great job she did in what must have felt like herding cats.

Thanks to Mike Morris for the informative attempt to resurrect Chris's sleeping 6.3 project. Watching everyone around the engine bay trying to figure out why the car wouldn't start was like watching a surgical team performing heart surgery.

Thanks to Karl and Neil for they're expertise.

I have to say considering last years turnout of 600's to the west coast and the fact of how many 600's are on the east coast, I was disappointed in the turnout.
nchristi26

I second Henry. Thank you Monique & Chris (photo below) for a 1st rate gathering. All of us
are grateful to both of you and your friends and the kind people of Rhinebeck for making us feel at home. And to the young people that helped I would like to say that they are some of the finest young adults I have meet; our future is secure. Also a special mention to the apple strudel like desert and the "grits", they are still in my dreams. Nick
