New site looks great.

Is this really the only benefit ????

I am disappointed and missing a lot of things …

1. I have to login every time I select the website. Earlier this went automaticly ..

2. Adding pictures in a posting is not available anymore ..

3. new post since your last visit you have to search by checking the data. In the past this was visible by a coloured icon ..

4. there is no ability to email via the website to any poster as in the past ..

5. there is no possibility to highlight some significant text with an different colour ..

6. Whe you want to read an impotant thread ( for example about the gearboc from A Plekker) in the 6.3-section You have to go to the last page and search for the openingspost. Then scroll down to read. To read the next posting you have to scroll up and search the beginning from the next post en scroll down to read … aso aso aso. This is like a book that starts with the last chapiter and ends with the beginning ??? ..

There will be more issues which I have not discovered so far ..

I question if this new website is really an improvement above what we had before ??? .

I am using this as a bit of a trial. Paul, I haven't had to log in since the first time but I am not sure what I did to achieve that. Site seems to know it is I.

Hi Art,
When I visit this website I need to click on the right topcorner every time to log in to be able to post.
That does not work automaticly as in the past ….

Yes, I have to click on Member Log In as well, but I don't have to put in a username and password. I don't see the icon to add photos; not sure where that is.

Personally?  I think the sticky items in each area are taking up too much room, so finding new stuff becomes just a little bit harder.
Can the ones in the "general discussion" and "6.3" forums be reviewed?

It would be great if a thread can appear in two places, then we could create a new area called "best of the M100 threads" or something like it and put the reference items there.

Also, my http://www.m-100.cc bookmark still goes to the old site.
The old site doesn't tell people what this new URL is.

Also, shouldn't the redirect for http://www.m-100.co do it so that the old domain name is preserved?
Those two domains are club assets that will be picked up by trolls the minute they expire.
The clubexpress.com URL is not ours. For long term survival of this forum, we want the URLs we control to be what is linked to from the outside. (don't we?)

this forum is suffering
abl567
Yes, it is suffering badly.
I feel restricting posting privileges to financial members only is the cause.
This should be reviewed

somebody decided to do that again?

Boneheaded move, plain and simple.

Hi Anthony,

Now I read for the first time that the posting privileges are limited for the clubmembers ..
When was dicided to this change and WHO did so ?  The board ???

I don't know the american "Laws" , but in our country those decissions must been made by the club-members and I haven't seen any voting about that change here nor an announcement to do so ….

I must support you, that they have to reconsider that change (and quickly) else this website (AND club) is doomed to die very soon …

This new websitelook in combination with the postingsrestrictions might be the killing of this valuable clubconnection !!!

abl567
Hi Paul,
I don't recall voting for it on the board but I did miss the teleconference before last. I'll look up the minutes.
Regardless of how it happened it must, in my opinion, be reversed.

There is a point in the minutes questioning the set up of the new site and the need to set permissions for general, forum and members access however there is no resolution to restrict posting to financial members only.
At this stage I'd suggest this was done to get the new site up and running as a priority. Any roll out of a new platform will cause disruption so lets work together to sort out the teething problems

I remember a similar discussion for (more then ?) 10 years ago on this web with president Stu . Can't find this thread anymore.

The mayority had the opinion, that the website would stay open for also non-paying-people c.q. M100 lovers (read potential clubmembers or owners)  …..

That lead finaly to the conclusion that the non-members kept access to the web and could post, but there came an additional section "clubmembers only" with additional info which only paying members could enter / see and post.there.

abl567
All,
There is a board Teleconference scheduled for May 10 to discuss this.
I have asked for the posting permissions to be opened up to registered forum members, not just financial members, in the meantime. I'm not that computer literate to know if that can be done quickly.
Also on the agenda for the board discussions is a tutorial on the new features of the site, image posting, private messages etc.

Paul;

In answer to your question about voting, the board does make decisions like the ones in question here, it is not put out to the entire membership and never has been. My hope is that we are making decisions with the membership's best interest in mind. And, we appreciate your feedback and that from anyone else that follows the club with interest.

As Anthony has indicated we will discuss it soon and let you know the outcome - you are welcome to join the call if you like and state your concerns personally - let me know and I'll be happy to make a few minutes for you to chat with us.

I have recently watched the M-100 facebook page as I did post the 2019 LodeFest invite. There have been a few non-members that contributed to the old site and can no longer access the new site to post. I suggested they call the 'Help Club phone number to get their log in (which is listed on this new site). I also sent an email inquiry to the Club support a week ago regarding the inability for non-members to log in and that there is no real contact for these non-members other than the
'contact us' which I have found does not have a response. So, bottom line, this site currently is restricted to members, though the board has agreed to allow non-members to post. If someone reads this that has the ability to correct the situation --a post on the m-100 facebook account would be beneficial to the club.

Additional note: I see Ant has his proud & handsome down-under portrait as he posts --I on the other hand have a question mark even though I have a picture loaded --how do you do this?
paul-NL
In the right top corner after you logged in , you will see your membername.
Put your mouse on and there you will see that you can upload a picture …

hmmmm, I see it does not work that way ….
mpmorris
Thanks Paul --I already have a photo uploaded in the bio but it does not appear when I post --I note no picture of you or yours also. -when I mouse over my name -the photo is indeed there.

Gentlemen: It appears to me that this website has been abandoned. Is there a problem?

For the site to wake up from its long slumber, people need to start posting here. It's easy to say, but few people are doing it. We lost the momentum of the past. We're pushing history uphill and that's not easy. -CTH

Don Vollum

This forum software is incredibly unfriendly, for whatever reason. There seems to be a fair amount of activity on Facebook, but personally I don't care for Facebook, with all it's ads and "suggested posts."

York McGavin

Hello CTH, and all other M-100 Forum members.

CTH, and Don Vollum, I agree with your observations about the invaluable contributions to this website becoming part of the past, with many members (or non dues paying members), now communicating on Facebook (FB) -- but I cannot confirm the defections to FB as I am not a member of that community, nor do I intend to join. (I did join FB over ten years ago, but after receiving some "friend me" requests from folks I met decades earlier, and left those folks in the past, where they belonged, I deleted my FB profile.)

Perhaps I can help spur more posts by at least introducing myself, and my rig, a 1970 300SEL 6.3.

(I have already attempted to insert the picture of a "face" in my user name picture, but the software would not allow me to do so. I followed the instructions posted by abl567, but I still received an error message. I then attempted to post a picture of my rig in my signature block, along with a description of my car, and this is my first post since doing so. We shall see if it works.)

If it does, I will author further posts.

Best,

York McGavin

Agree: this forum is unfriendly. I always get an ERROR message: "Cannot load requested page" I was frustrated for a while but learned to ignore it.

This, the second month of the new year 2022, has me light on my feet. I am still in the process of putting 2021 to bed, getting it behind me. As I tick off my completed task list, I find myself optimistic for the future, including our Forums. Years ago, I was an avid M-100 poster. My interest in the M100s didn't fall off -life just got in the way. I too, find FB annoying. Periodically I will make a comment but that is about as far as it goes -certainly wouldn't post technical information -I see it as a coffee table chat room and to echo McGavin's reservations, the 'Friend Request' generally are people I do not know or people I wish to not know. The snow and rains will subside here in Kentucky, I will then have the 6.3 (#4058) out of hibernation -share my experiences. (my last real post here on the forum was its trip from Ca to Ky last year, if I recall correctly.

My biggest fear is losing all the information on the site. When I have an issue with my car this is the first place I search for an answer. It would be unfortunate if one day it is all lost. I’m not a poster. Couple of times. But I am someone that uses the site and more than happy to pay for the privilege.

cth350

In theory, there's at least one recoverable backup someplace. In practice, restoring that into a different form hasn't been tried since we migrated into this platform some years back. So, in theory, it's doable. G-d knows how. -CTH

abl567

Keeping all the old threads and information was a non negotiable when we migrated, it should be non negotiable whatever changes take place.
