M-100 Events

Techno Classica 2015 in Essen, Germany
aplekker
Hi guys,

Next spring the Techno Classica exhibition will be held once again in Essen, Germany. This is the largest exhibition for classic cars in the world, as far as I know.
I have been going for the last 8 years every year. Some of these events have turned out as mini M100 meets, with as much as 12-15 people participating.

I will be going next year again, as always. The dates are Thursday April 16 until Sunday April 19.
If we could get a group together of at least 10 persons, we could try to go to Stuttgart after the show, and visit Mercedes Benz. In the past we have been able to arrange private tours of the Museum, the Classic Center, the AMG engine factory, and other activities.

Right now US Air lists prices as low as $578 from the East Coast (Philadelphia) and a flight from Los Angeles through London lists for $430!

Hotels are as low as 90 Euros per night, Ibis, Essen. We also know there are cheaper hotels if one wants to forget about luxury.

Car rental is not necessary, Germany has a great railway system, and all large cities (Essen, Stuttgart) have great public transportation systems.
Example: I am flying to Frankfurt this coming week in order to attend this years Mercedes Benz club meetings. I will take the ICE train (high speed) in first class, Frankfurt to Siegen 29 Euros, Siegen to Stuttgart 59 Euros, and Stuttgart to Frankfurt 49 Euros.

Obviously the key to low pricing is the advance booking. I have waited more than once till the last moment, and paid for that accordingly.

I would like to see if there is an interest in this trip, so please reply.

Hi Albert,

I'm keen. First class is the only way to go. Cheap as chips and guaranteeed a seat.

I'll try to drag Ant and Dr Love along.
Surely we wouldn't forego the luxury of the Hotel ibis Gelsenkirchen!

Hi Martin,

Agreed! But the Ibis in Essen is basically not in any way different from the one in Gelsenkirchen, and the distance to the Grupa Hallen, where the exhibition is, is way shorter.
Would be great if you could get a few guys from Australia to join, we would be 4-5 already. Now we add in Luis, Neil, Mike, Matthew, Tom and maybe Kheng and we are there...

I also should have mentioned that the typical headquarters of the M-100 Group members is the booth of the German M-100 Group led by Felix Thiede.

I have set my mind on going next year, if work permits.

Might even take #335 With me and have the MFI serviced at the same time ;-)
What's my best option for MFI service in Germany?

Hello,
I would be more than glad to meet you here in Essen! For me it´s only a 3 hour ride so Essen is on my agenda évery year! Just like Veterama in Mannheim which is the biggest parts market in Europe.

Hi Albert,

Should we make this IBIS the M100 headquarters for the 2015 Techno Classica?

Ibis Essen Hauptbahnhof
Hollestrasse 50

I checked the prices for the hotel and it works out to an average of 74euro/night. I have made a reservation (free cancellation up until the day of arrival) in on the 14/04/15 out 18/04/15.
April 15 is a 'Happy View Day' (their words not mine [:D]). Ant and I went on this day a couple of years ago and it was worth the extra cost, 40euro versus 22euro for the other days. Far smaller crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere.

I´ve booked the 16/17, just a suggestion maybe when everyone has made there arrangements we could plan to meet at a local brewery for food and lubrication! I found this a stones throw from the Classica……

Lubrication: Viscosity in this case….. Everyone makes there own decision #61514; http://www.ruettenscheider-hausbrauerei.de/unsere-biersorten/

Hi there! Last week the 72 euro rooms were available, I should have booked then but I had a poor internet connnection at my hotel in Thailand... plus our group was not complete that time.

Anyhow today Booking.com showed zero availability for 16 - 19 April but I managed to book via hotel website, at 101 euro rate per double room.

There will be 6 MBC Finland members staying over at Ibis then. I look forward to meet some of you there.

kari, it is worth going on the sunday, we went around 4/5 years ago, it was on a thursday so all the workshops were working, and very interesting especially the trimming shop, the workers were very freindly and talkative

just one 600 is enough at the moment, [now it's got to two]
retrodave111
2 of us are booked in at the movenpick, just across the road from the ibis, and some freinds are in the intercity 200 yards down the road, that was full when i tried to book, not long to go now

just one 600 is enough at the moment, [now it's got to two]

I'll be there Thursday, probably arriving tea-time if I can wake up/set off in time to get to Folkestone before the M25 falls apart. Thursday at the Arosa (others already fully booked), then the Ibis Fri and Sat. Looking forward.

Hello!

For us it would be nice to have a get together near the Ibis, at least on Thursday as we will not be going to the exhibition that day (tomorrow already). Fri-Sat can be something else after the exhibition closing time.

Any suggestions for Thursday, I mean a nice place nearby for a beer os so?

Hi Martin,

I did not receive your sms; perhaps I should have written my phone number with clear numbers but I decided to hide some numbers in order not to be caught by some malware programs that lurk around.

Anyway we had a big group and all the guys were eager to hit some local pubs etc. so we were quite busy during all the trip.

The show was excellent, as usual. I talked with the local M-100 Club guys at TC.

Also we hade a lunch at the Classic Remise and walked through the showroom. One brochure handed out at TC told the W100 at Classic remise used to belong to former USSR President Brezhnev!

Some M-100 pictures taken at Techno Classica 2015:

Sorry not to have bumped into more of you this year, but the breathtaking scale of the event and seemingly never-ending collections of fabulous automobiles and restoration, parts and conservation shops certainly kept me on my feet, and I still didn't come close to seeing everything.

Definitely setting up plans to return next year, which will be April 6-10 2016.

Thanks for those pictures.
All those shown 600 are identified, but you missed one black unknown) Pullman with sharpred leather. It might be a 6door version , offered by Rosier Classic Center.

When you have the Vin of the 6.3's I would like to get them for our registery.

Has nobody info's about that 1968 Pullman ???
