So we have a blue 1970 MB 600 swb with 28kmiles, almost mint..car has been
sitting most of the time in a garage for the last 20 years.
It was running VERY rich when we took it out from storage a couple
of months ago, I disabled the cold start valves (plugged them and disconnected wires)
but it did run exactly the same...big black clouds of smoke, terrible idle and
rough, Took the old pump of and one of the racks )top) was stuck on full rich and the co2 adjuster in the back was not working, just replaced the injection pump with a used one from a 300 6.3, and nowit is running lean, is there a procedure to install the pump? I just installed it, I did not calibrate it TDC or nothing, and no its running lean, stalls and hard to start...
I usually work on Lincolns and Cadillacs (carburated engines), can you
please give me an advice how to properly install the pump?

first turn the motor till the rotor in the distributor points to the ignitionmarking for the first cilinder.
Then turn the crankshaft till the 60 degree marking (after OT) on the flightwheel ....
PS. For our registery I would like to have some info and pics from that car .

to make the job easier I love to know them:)

ok, timing is set on the pump @ 60 atdc, now engine starts and
runs for 3 seconds then stalls, does not respond to throttle...
Any ideas?
thanks

Presuming the pedal linkages are all connected, it sounds as if the rack in the MFI pump is seized. This is quite possible if the pump has sat for a long time. Use the "Search" icon at the top right and use "MFI" for a reference and see what you come up with. A lot has been written on this website over the years about this type of problem. If it is just stuck, you may be able to free it up without taking the MFI back off the motor using toluene or similar down the injection line bores and accessing the rack from the front of the pump. If the mechanism is rusted up, the pump will have to be taken back off the car and rebuilt.

Sorry to wake up this old thread, I would like to clarify something.... so when fitting back an injector pump, one will turn the engine until the timing needle points to 60 degrees correct?
Why does the big blue service manual say for the 6.3 engine that it must be turned to 20 degrees [:0]

20 degrees is for 280SL's and similar engines. 6.3, 600, 300SL, and 300SE all use 60 degrees ATDC.
