Correct AC hoses routing
Author Last Post
This is a picture of correct hose routing I got from MB Classic Centre in Germany. It's clear that my routing is incorrect.

I'm still struggling to get my air conditioning working fine and I would appreciate some help. I had bad clutch and compressor was leaking. I have brand new (not refurbish) York compressor and clutch now. The AC works fine but there is terrible noise from belt drive and compressor which depends on belt tension. It's quiet at idle but huge rumbling (louder than engine itself) occurs at around 2k rpm. I found that my compressor suction hose my be routed incorrectly as it's passing through the belt drive. I used the routing used on my engine donor car. This is different to pictures from MB service books however the donor car was supposed to be original. The issue is that different routing (outside of the belt drive) would have huge impact on belt vs clutch contact surface as the tensioning pulley would be rotated to the left instead of right side of the engine. I expect that the rumbling sound may be influenced by that.

My car is like this:

Could somebody please check and make picture the compressor belt drive and tensioning pulley? Is your AC system quiet or noisy?

Also I'm also interested in correct hose fittings. My suction hose has 30 degree fitting (downward inside the belt drive) and discharge is 90 degree fitting (upward from behind the compressor). I'm not sure that it's correct.

Good afternoon.

I just mounted my AC compressor back to car and I'm not sure if my AC hoses were routed correctly as I have seen many different ways on the pictures to route it. Does anybody know what is to original MB hose placement on late cars with AUX FAN (my #1285 was retrofitted with electrical fan)?

My current routing from compressor is
Compressor to Cabin - through the AC belt (under AC tensioner) down right. The hose is then curved 180 degree back upward and goes alongside battery holder to the cabin. There is no metal support on top of the right valve cover.

Compressor to Condenser - there is 90 deg metal connection where hose goes down (on the right-back of the compressor) and then it's twisted toward front of the car. There is a hose mount connected to right front bottom hole of the compressor. The hose continues under sway bar and then up toward the Condenser (in from of it).

Regards

Filip
