Front Strut Ball Joints availability & quality...
Author Last Post

Thanks! The tires were just too old for safe road use. I believe they were manufactured in 2009 and I fitted them in 2010. But almost no wear and very few miles on them. I now obtained a fresh set of BFG’s that’s made this year and having DOT 0819.

Got them from Tirerack.

Glad you were able to sort that out. By the way, saw your car today. Bob had the new tires put on and they look " way cool"!

Have you tried Martin? Don't know if he sells them but, he may know where to get them.

Thanks for the advice Clayton.

But I was able to source a set from Germany.

All,

My 6.9 is currently at Onager Mercedes for a major service and tune up.

(Thanks Clayton, for the lead and info).

I have now been advised that the ball joints on the front struts should be replaced.

The Mercedes part number they gave me is 116-320-10-28.

But when checking online the following number also comes up: 126-320-01-28.

Is the 126 no. perhaps a replacement number for the 116 number?

And importantly, can both these part numbers be used on the 6.9?

I see the prices is all over the place for these joints?

Would you guys go with a genuine Mercedes part here, or would an aftermarket component be as good?

I am very afraid of buying any Chinese made copies here.

What about Lemförder, are they recognized as a valid substitute for the expensive genuine Mercedes part on this occasion?

Would a Lemförder ball joint be made in Germany?

There is also a guy in Canada that lists these as available. His part number is 1163201028.

The info he gives is that they are made in Germany and of the "Ruville" brand.

Are these recognized as good quality parts?

All info and input much appreciated. Thanks.
