Hello all,
I have had this 6.9 for over ten years and during this entire time I have been on and off chasing a mysterious tick from within my motor. I am at whits end with this motor after spending thousands on it from three different speciality shops. I will give yall a run down of the service history before posting a video of the tick.
Service 1: Used motor installed at Arthur's Mercedes Benz in Carrolton, TX over a decade ago after original motor hydrolocked under their supervision.
Replacement engine from a junkyard euro motor I pulled out of Florida appeared to be healthy. Upon install the motor immediately presented an issue with a tick.
If I recall correctly, Arthurs rebuilt the CIS and rebuilt the injectors. Likely a litany of other services I do not recall as it was over a decade ago.
Service 2: Timing chain, tensioner, and guides were replaced at Hybrid Motors of New Jersey.
Service 3: All hydraulic lifters replaced at Wolfgangs of New Jersey.
Service 4: I adjusted all the lifter clearences with OEM parts from the Classic Center using a MBZ 'go no-go gauge'.
After all of this, there still appears to be a timing related sound coming from within the motor. Due to this I start and drive the car very sparingly.
I would love any and all input on this manner. Thank you for the read! This is a euro car.

You can clearly hear a tick and a exhaust leak. Yes the video is 7 years old. It sounds just like this today.
Thanks all,
William
