Introduction! 6.3 1968 000319

Welcome Paul!

I would like to hand you some initial advice and cheering:

¤ Valves need adjusting

- Easily done unless the adjustment bolts are stuck. 17 mm crowfoot wrench.

¤ Front suspension drops after a couple of days. Do I just need to replace the front bags, or all??

- Leave them for now! In time You'll learn how to troubleshoot the air suspension.

- A common cause of leakage is the level valves, rather difficult to overhaul.

¤ I didn't see any alcohol in the pot (can someone clarify if I need to do this asap and what this procedure is)

- I assume You refer to the anti-freeze unit at the air inlet to compressor.

- If You intend to drive in the winter you need to add some spirit in there.

¤ I haven't started to look at the bushings around the car, but suspect I will have a long list. Where do I start? Front/ rear? subframes, engine.... etc...

- Start by looking for movements in bearings and bushings. Are they tight?

- Don't forget to grease all of the lubrication points in front axle and rear.

Hi Paul.

This forum is almost dead now, but there is a lot of valuable info here to be found.

I read through your thread on MB forum. Car looks good, and really cool with the vented rear discs.

Hello,

Quick introduction. I'm Paul, live in Illinois and own a 1968 6.3 for the last few months. I've just signed up to this group having had a recommendation from Mercedes Benz Classic. I've had success with another forum- see link below. But sounds like there's some good resources here too.

Just bought a W109 6.3. Where do I start?! | Mercedes-Benz Forum

I've owned my car a few months and have a long road to get this back to a great condition. I received my data card today and working through the translations and code look ups.

Just wanted to say Hi!
