York AC compressor bracket fastener?
Matthew Biederman

I’m in the process of removing the York AC compressor for rebuild. I’ve spotted a fastener that I do not understand. It’s a 22mm hex nut threaded onto a stud which has an Allen cap screw in the center. Never seen anything like this before and want to be sure if I remove the 22mm nut I don’t end up with a problem. Camera didn’t want to focus on it, but it’s dead center of the attached photo.

Any advise/experience?

TIA

Matt

Looking at the photo it appears the bracket is not tight against the engine. I wonder if the stud has a shoulder behind the bracket and the Allen allows you to screw the stud in or out and align the compressor pulley square to the crank pulley. Then it all gets locked down with the 22mm hex nut. Think I’ll put a witness mark at 12 o’clock to see if the stud moves when I remove the nut.

It was pretty much as I expected. Remove the nut and it was free. Had to unscrew the Allen capscrew though to get enough room to pull the compressor out. That was a surprise. I got a nice volume of coolant out onto the floor with no way to capture it as it ran over the lower control arm and tire.
