W111 250SE Power Steering Pump remove/replace
Author Last Post
I have a whole pump assembly from a 220se sitting in plain sight in the garage. -cth
Thanks Charlie, I have the engine out of the car for rebuilding at school and I've got the pump and carrier off the engine now. Have tried all the things you suggest to no avail yet and the "lip" or flange designed to be pulled is somewhat destroyed as it bent and broke in places as we pulled and heated.

I'm going to weld on a new lip and try again before resorting to more extremes like a press.

PS - in case it get's damaged, anyone with a used pulley I could purchase let me know, thanks.
With effort, you can remove the pump and the carrier, I've done it several times, It's tight with the radiator and everything else in place, so doing it with the pulley on will take time, effort and inspiration.

Pulling the pulley is done with that tool. Google  108589023300 to see the factory tool at a bit over 200$. I am curious if the 31$ tool from OTC that's on Amazon would do it right. The issue would be the size of the lip that is grabbing the center. Your neighborhood mechanic should have it. Note that heating the pulley's center without heating the shaft too much can help.

This thread mentions the problem so may maybe Martin W's puller solution is the answer but I wanted to be sure - here's my dilemma:

It appears that you must remove the pulley in order to get the pump and bracket off the car because the bolts that hold it on are behind it. With the engine out of the car for rebuilding, I've tried using a puller on the bolt flange just behind the nut and washer but it is so tight it's resulted in nearly destroying the flange so there is not much there to play with now.

Is this the right way to approach the problem? Is there a special tool I might need to find - Martin's as shown?
