Cracked alternator mounting
Author Last Post
Thanks a lot!

Hope that will help
Thank you very much!

I'm now able to weld it back. Unfortunately brand new spacer tubes I bought from MB (no. 40 on your picture) or too long so it seems that somebody grinded sides of the mounting after it was welded. Would you be so kind and also measure thickness of the mounting sides (pls. see yellow marks on my new picture).

I found some picture from W100 600 where correct use of washers (no 38 +39) is partly visible. I believe that alternator should fit between two metal washer that are oriented with openside towards the mounting. It's not clear to me how the rubber washer (that firs inside the metal washer) should be oriented.

Is there any chance to get some pictures of mounted alternator from upper side (like on my pictures from 600) and from lower side too? I don't know how tensioning rod should be linked to the aluminium mounting using all four washers (2x rubber no. 45  + 2x metal no. 44) and spacer tube (no. 46)

I am having trouble trying to post an image and a reply, so bear with me.  The distance between the jaws is 65mm as best my mechanic could measure on my 6.3 which is with him at the moment.  I don't know if the image I have put in this space will appear.  Attaching an image was simple on the previous website.  Help says use the paper clip icon but I can't see one.  If the image I have tried to include is there, there are 4 of 38 and 39 and 2 of 44 and 45.  Hope this helps. Hello.

I have a problem with my alternator mounting. We discovered cracked mounting while converting AC to R134a.
It seems that it cracked not for the first time. Previous owner was missing correct 4x (rubber + metal) washers. As a result he tightened the screw too much and cracked the aluminum. I will weld it back but I don't know the correct distance (pls see red arrow on the picture). also I'm not sure about correct placement of the rubber washers (I bought new original set of 4 rubber and 4 metal + 2x spacer tubes).

Is there any chance that somebody has a good condition mounting and measure the distance for me?
Also I would appreciate some photos of how the correct position and orientation of washers are.
Also I'm absolutely lost about how the connection of the tensioning rod connection to the holder should be made.
I bought new set for tensioner form MB and it consist of M10 screw, 2x rubber washer, 2xmetal washer (pan style), wave washer + spacer tube.
