6.9

So, is it really possible ?
Author Last Post
For starters, the oil tank is quite unique on the 6.9 with baffles, as well as 3 lines, 1 for feed, one return and 1 vent line. There are some schematics out the which show what it looks like, but I am guessing it will be a hell of a lot of work to make it work. Not impossible of course, but a super critical component as no/low oil = fried engine of course.

I bought a 6.9 engine about 13+ months ago. That project came and went. That's life.

Tried to sell that engine. Still a circus in some regards. I still have it. I sold it twice on eBay but no one ever paid for it. CL was a disaster in the making. I still have it. I think I said that ... http://www.m-100.cc/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9663

Then, to make my wife and HOA happy, I looked into putting it on a stand because it seemed too big ... too heavy ... made the OM617 look like a lawn mower engine ... http://www.m-100.cc/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9948

I can say it is safe. It is on an engine stand in my garage now. No more HOA issues either. And, my wife is happy.

So, since I am getting back my OM617 turbo engine from the machine shop shortly, I was wondering-- would a 6.9 really fit? Is it too heavy ?

Here are some snappies. They certainly look different. I heard the engine would fit but not the tranny without a mod'd tranny tunnel. BUT, a T-56 6-speed tranny might just be perfect ...

The weight of the 6.9 is around 750 pounds. BUT, I don't need power steering or AC right now. I could shed a few pounds off the engine. The OM617.962 turbo with all the accessories is around 700 pounds and so would the 6.9 engine with a lightened load.

So,

The weight is about the same ...

How could I do the following:

1. Create a hack oil tank, around 2.5 gallons (5 quart bottles x 2) ?
2. Mount an electric fuel pump, what PSI would the pump need to be?
3. Mount some sort of battery to try to start it ?
4. Mount a shortened exhaust system

My thoughts are this:

A reinforced pallet on wheels so I can move it in and out of my garage. Get a tune-up kit. I already got a spare battery and enough battery cable to mount something up.

I need a starter and flywheel too ...
