No paint code ?

And “2” for rear sliding roof

1970 300sel 3.5 #4844
1972 300sel 6.3 #6092
1972 300sel 6.3 #6516
1976 450sel 6.9 #1210

and during my research I found a curious dataplate : ( enjoy [:)] )

Hope it visible ....

Since in the 6.3 section our French friend Franck discovered that in his vision one code on the dataplate covered if the car was ordered with a sliding roof I digged deeper to find more.

In the first line you will find the colour of the car and when in two-tone followed with the different colour of the top else "---" what means the roof in the same as the bodycolor.
Then you will find additional a "-" for non sliding roof or "1" sliding roof in the front or "2" for sliding roof in the rear.

Next line you will find the bodytype ; in this case 100012 12 which is a 600SWB LHD. Then followed by the countrycode i.c. "7" for the USA.

Next line the productionnumber "00031" and then the bodynumber "00032"

This went until around Vin 000375 or july 1965.

some other examples :

In august 1965 there came a somewhat different dataplate :

In the first and possible second line you now find the SA-codes for which the body had to be prepared. All other SA-codes, for which the body not needed to be prepared you only will find on the datacard and or productionpage.

The third line is as on the first line in the earlier model dataplate. In case the color code(s) and the code for the sunroof.

Next line the bodytype and the countrycode.

The last line start with additional paintcode "5" . That was till july 1969 ca Vin 001410 and that number was for all variations equal. In august 1965 that additional paintcode was "0" except when there was a metallic color it went into "M" . Next the productionnumber and the bodynumber starting with the prefix "9" (see the last dataplate)

this went until Vin ca 002330 (januari 1974) when the dataplate again changed somewhat:

first line now shows the productionumber.
second line now shows the bodytype followed by the bodynumber. Then follows (eventualy the "M" for metalic paint and then) the countrycode

third line the colorcode(s) and the code for the sunroof.
next line(s) for the SA-codes for which the body had to be prepaired.
