The Mercedes stuff is PVC and GM's was bituminous based. The GM stuff goes hard and creates rust so go with the German stuff.[:D] There's quite a few trade tricks involved in using the stuff ,but one important thing to remember is buy the freshest cans you see, and take the top off ,so you can stir up the stuff in the bottom of thE can . Aaron, there's a definite coating on the inside of the door skins hence my question. So yes, this would be helpful so thanks for the tip!

Francis, I'm not as knowledgeable on the vintage American steel. I would imagine that by 1959 some sort of under body protection was being used, especially in the wheel well areas. Then again, I can remember seeing GM products from the 70's and 80's that had inner fender panels with nothing but black paint on them. I don't think there was anything more than paint on the insides of the doors. For years Mercedes only sprayed cavity sealant inside of their doors. (part number 000-986-72-10-10) You could also use wax preservative (part number 000-986-42-70-10)
Alternatively, if you aren't concerned with originality, why not use body shcultz on your Paontiac? :) (part number 001-986-46-10)

Is this the same type of stuff used in older american cars as well? I'd like to know what's best to use on our '59 Pontiac inside the door skins, thanks.

Clean the gun out properly when you are finished too. I use mine all thr time but sometimes it doesn't get cleaned ...so the other day I am under a finny and using body shutz . The nozzle blocked up when a hard peice of the stuff from before got sucked up. Result? the air supply was fed straight into the can ....BOOOMMMM! f#$&^ BODYSHUTZ EVERYWHERE! [:D][:D] quote:

Thanks, Martin! One has now been bought. :) Incidentally, if any of you buy the Schultz, cosmoline, or cavity sealant, be aware that after you open it it'll quickly cure. Make sure you get done what you have to get done all at one time.

I recently ordered some body Schultz from the dealership to restore some areas underneath my 6.3 and in the wheel wells. Proper texture is important to me. Well, the cans that the body Schultz comes in have a threaded top that screws on to a spray gun. Do any of you know where to get this spray gun? It's a very simple spray gun with a pick-up tube, and a nozzle that is about the size of a pencil, and an attachment for an air hose. I'm guessing this is something that can be acquired through an automotive paint supply store maybe? And no, I don't want to use black spray tar in a can one might buy at the local parts store.....it's just wrong. haha
