The kits are probably inexistent but is there a store near MIAMI that will sell the PTFE backup ring? Thanks

Who would you contact in California or nearby, to overhaul your leaking Mercedes 6.9 suspension strut? 

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks guys! A whole lot better than the $2,500 route. I will contact each and keep you posted. Also, in the next edition of Lode Star, I am going to go more tech, in which, I invite your input. I am sure this will be a part in the next issue. Thanks again.

I have completely gone through my suspension minus the front struts. Do you know Martin's contact info? I saw the pair on ebay for $2,500 and still have not recovered from the heart attack.
That or cut to the chase and send them to Martin Werminghausen for refurbishment.

So is it best to dismantle the strut and try and match up the o rings etc at a hydraulic shop? Regards Mark.

Those reseal kits have long since been NLA.

I managed to hold the steel cup in place with a oil filter wrench, strap one not a chain one.

Does anyone have the measurements for the seals and o-rings in the rear struts? Are they the same as the front? I suppose not.

Thankyou for your comments but the first point is that there are no synthetic seals in this bore that touch the wall of the cylinder - period.

Too late anyway as it has been honed and re-assembled.

With the exception of the piston and the ? Cast iron ring nothing else touches the cylinder wall - all synthetic seals are on the ?chrome plated shaft.

I have opened the other side and it has a different piston with a ring as well as a flat ?teflon seal but I will put that in another post.

I will not be touching that bore due to the synthetic seal as well as the fact that it is not as glazed and has no score marks and as well it was functioning quite well.

Engine cylinder bores are not lubricated ,as in "filled with oil under compression". The cross hatch is required to keep a microfilm of oil in place to lubricate the piston rings which have to tolerate high surface speeds and temps ranging from 80C to 900C on firing .[:)].I have some very old Mercedes blocks here with massive mileages on them and the cross hatch is still in place. Once an engine is allowed to run rich and the oil is washed off,the bores wear rapidly ,as do the rings. The glazed bore can no longer lube the rings and the engine begins to exhibit blowby and smoke. [xx(].A certain amount of initial wear is allowed to get the rings to match the surface of the bore and this will work for the life of the car as long as the engine is maintained .
With hydraulic cylinders running a synthetic type of seal, the idea of crosshatching doesn't provide a sealing surface but a means for fluid to escape under pressure .Via the scratches .
A tight seal will only seal as long as the seals surface against the cylinder wall is maintained. Eventually the edge of the scratches destroys the seal as it acts as a cutting edge. Admittedly this takes a period of time but as plenty of folks have found when honing brake cylinders it does happen before the bore shows signs of glazing again.
Modern Mercedes Engines with Nikasil bores are etched to provide the same surface with Acid after boring .
