Guess what I did today?
Author Last Post
We have had a mild start of winter; no snow so far and temperature way above freezing point. On two Fridays I have driven with my 6.9 to work, actually it brightens up a dark day very well. I have this car at home in my garage and all the others are stored away elsewhere except the G that I am driving on regular basis.

Thanks Al, and daantjie! I have had my 6.9 on Mobile and on Autoscout24; I have negotiations going on for the 6.9 with a potential US-version enthusiastic [:D] . But it is a slow process. I kind of like to have 500E sold now and like to keep the M100 car as it has the vintage registration now and for driving only now and then it is easier (cheaper [:I] ) to keep on the road. I am getting a 2004 C180K from my dad soon as he can not drive any more due to high age; that car has clocked only 60k and has been driven only 4k since 2014 when it had the last service done, always in a warm garage since new!

In the mean time I need to let one of my cars go, so I had my 500E paint upgraded by having the hood, roof and trunk lid done at my "official paint shop". No the car is extremely nice and solid, runs well.

Yes, nice Lorinsers on your car also! I like both models, also pentas and BBS mesh wheels on these 80's cars.

The paint shop is just ordinary shop who repairs cars for insurance companies etc but the 3rd generation owners are members of our local MB club so they take care of our vintage cars when it is not too large job. They have quite a modern facility at the moment.

The body shop is their "sub-supplier" 300 meters away; the one man shop maintains a fleet of light trucks and vans for a small company as well as does collision damage repairs and rust jobs whenever he can fit those in.

Al, I think your SEC wheels are fabulous -just right.

That car looks a lot like my 88 560SEC , also in Naughtygal Blue. Great effort and I must say, that's a very clean shop :)

Terrific!
Now when the M100 forum is back in business I can post some photos of my 1987 560SEC. I was driving it for 6 seasons and this year it was stored away. In the autumn I took it to a specialist who removed the fender chrome strips and repaired some rust damages. The car was resprayed up to the middle of the sides, except the doors.

The car was inspected by the vintage car authorities and it was approved. Next season I can drive with no road tax and with smaller insurance.

Kari --yes, under aggressive braking, I have experienced brake fade. But over-all, as built, a wolf in sheep's clothing. I have installed more aggressive pads and rotors, swapped out wheel rim size (8.5 x 17 & 9.5 x 17 BBS 3-piece) but have found as a driver, the stock 16s and factory rotors and pads are just right.
Currently, there is 235k miles on the speedo. The only major repair was the transmission reverse clutches at 160k miles and a timing chain (for good measure). It still has the original suspension under it with the exception of rear struts & accumulators. I am ready to re-spring it as the front is getting dodgy on down hill.

Nice to see that there are other 500E owners here. The car is like you both described, although the brakes and the suspension are not suitable for racetrack. The car is too heavy, too high and the brakes are too weak for the real duty.

But, as told it works excellent the way it was designed. Next year I will have both my 560SEC and 500E as daily drivers, although I will not drive so much with 560SEC like it happened already this year. My plan is to do some detailing on the SEC in the winter 2017-2018 and have the side panels repaired because of some rust spots, then I can have it on Historic-plates (no road tax, low insurance fee) in summer 2018 and then 500E will be the only daily driver (except the G of course).

I bought a 2001 e55 AMG for what I thought was pretty cheap. It was back in 2013 and had 45000 miles and was 15000 USD. Except for some scratches the car was immaculate and all original. What a fun car! I know the w210's can have build quality issues, but like any purchase you need to look it over carefully.

James --I've found the build quality on the 210 consistently up there -what one would expect.

--One of the (affordable) cars still on my wish list is the C43 AMG. I had a C36 but have always wanted the C43 -something about a V-8.

I've had one since 2002 -drive it daily and definitely fits all the criteria -the brakes are incredible, handling is fantastic and the power is a kick -drive it like a 'gentleman' or a track car. It is just right. -

--did I say I have a couple of 126s? --completely different car in all aspects whether a coupe or a sedan -the 126 is a luxury sedan (specifically the 560SEL) while the 500E is a sports car with 4 doors.
