6.9

suspension conversion

Jean-Pierre. Thats my set-up. Currently, and still on car. those are 12" x 2.5" Eibach 600 Lb/In coil over springs with QA1 Proma Star Shocks, Double Adjustable Item Code DDR5855B. Not shown (hidden in photo is a machined adapter which copies the shape of the top of the hydraulic strut which screws onto the top of the shock. However after many miles and years on the car I'm going to make a change using a shorter shock and weaker spring. Used a 450 lb rated spring which gave me a slighter lower ride. Also considering using the Eibach coil over shock instead of the QA1. Also feel no need for the double adjustable feature. Hope to start putting it together soon. Relatedly used a 10" 600 lb. Eibach in rear. Tried the Mercedes 450 rear springs from a wrecker in rear but too weak. Sat down on acceleration. Hope this helps.
Good morning from Nairobi,

I am restoring the only 6.9 in Kenya, the hydropneumatic suspension has been removed and it uses 450SE front springs which are way too weak. I would love to use this set up, could you please direct me where I could buy those struts?

Thank you,

Jean-Pierre

US cars must have softer Hydro or something, because any 6.9 I have ever driven never rolls into a turn ,regardless of speed or surface condition. Not as good as a 6.3 but far better than any of the contemporarys and the equal of most modern performance cars. Mind you, flat cornering is NOT any sort of indication of good handling. [:)]

...There are old cars, and then there are Classics..(Mercedes Benz Ad. 1999)
Phil: Far superior handling. Just hugs the corners with no roll. Big rebound in dips greatly reduced. Fun to drive a real sport car feel. Springs shown rated at 450 lbs I put in replacing the 800 lb rated I had in there which made ride even stiffer but I did not have the height adjustment in front which I wanted to achieve a lower front as shown and not that level look of the hydraulic set up. Next move is to replace the rear stock Bilsteins which clearly are too soft.

How's the ride quality?

Phil
