Nothing is happening. Justin is spending all his spare time working on Nicholas, his son's Go Kart. He also has a "dead" 300SEL that belongs to someone else under the hoist that has been there for months with no activity. So, as Ron Bunting said in his first posting when he started this thread, it is a "never ending story".

Hi Joe,

Water pumps are an ongoing project. I really should make up a new thread. Nothing has been done to #5810 for a while with it stuck on the hoist above a "customer's" car that is just taking up space while he pays nothing to allow it to proceed month after month. You have stimulated me to start a new thread. Short answer to your question here is "Yes", but if we do, we will use the 6.9 profile rather than the 600/6.3 as the basis, because it is a better design.

Without wanting to take this off-topic, have you considered having the impeller 3D scanned?
The raw scan can be altered in autocad / solidworks etc, and a faithful reproduction can be produced in a 3D printer using ABS plastic, and if required a stainless steel sleeve/bush for the press-fitting.
Overall, It's a much more straightforward process and quite a deal less frustrating than attempting to source impellers.
Also, from the scan, a die can be made to enable the casting of an impeller in DR Brass if desired. (or other metal). Or, a billet impeller can be CNC machined using the scanned in surface profile.

Just food for thought if it's getting too difficult.
Currently, Justin is working on the brake calipers. This car has the same 35mm pistons in the rear calipers that Ron Bunting spoke about recently. I don't know when this change was introduced, but obviously some time prior to #5810 being built and after my 1970 Parts Manual was printed. Note in a few of the pictures that there is a large 35 cast in the side of these calipers. Not sure if Tom Hanson has this detail either, because the seals he sent Justin are 42mm. The Australian company that covers Ate has the 35mm kits. They also sell the square profile O rings that go between the two caliper halves. With a combination of local and factory kit parts, the job is underway. The final issue that has arisen is that the pins that Tom sent are not right for these rear calipers. We have ended up with several different pins from various sources - new from Tom, existing from Justin's calipers, existing from #2509 and also from a 280S from the early 70's which I bought for my son years ago. Of course, M-B apparently are no longer supplying pistons and the ones shown in the pictures were made locally.

Couple of updates. Water pump was done some time ago along with the one off #4426 and I covered that in an article in Lode Star but will post a few pictures here for completeness. We have also moved on with a few other water pumps, one for Phil and some spares and have looked at issues with the non-availability of 6.3 impellers, non-availability of the chrome ring seal at the impeller issues with cracked snouts on the water pump body and minor corrosion in existing intact impellers where the rubber seal sits between the chrome seal ring and the impeller. I think I have covered that in some other people's topics and won't cover it here. I might do a separate thread and try to put what we have worked out about these pumps there, so it is all in one place.

I saw this car in person over the weekend and the pictures do not do it justice.

It it truly magnificent in every aspect.
Rear shoulder and lap belts (3 point anchorage the same as in the front) are standard in Australia and have been for many years. The outer anchorage points are built into the parcel tray by M-B in all cars and if the car is registered to carry 5 passengers, the rear centre anchorage is as well. In older cars, the centre anchorage on the parcel tray has to be installed and then that has to be certified by a licensed seat belt installer.

Here are some updated pictures. As most of you know, I started a new thread covering the continued work on the engine of this car along with several other engines. There have been too many distractions and the car has not progressed at anything like the rate intended. The motor should start going back together within the month.

The interior was mostly done 5 years ago[:I]. Excuse the dust in some of these pictures. Justin has personalized the car to some extent. Nothing is irreversible. Recently, the sound deadening has been applied in some areas where it was not done in 2009.









Justin has moved the battery to the left wheel well in the boot and has the boot carpeted. The boxing under the parcel tray at the front of the boot encloses speakers.





















The rear window has been put in. The speakers in the parcel tray have grills that are hard to see. Excuse the dust[:I].













The chrome plated door frames are back from the plater. They still need to be painted inside.









There have been long delays with the chrome plater. He had undertaken to refinish the alloy trim, then had to move and so on.





The regulators are ready.





The windscreen was to go in when Justin remembered that he had not applied the chrome to the A pillars.













The zinced window runners are ready.





The upholsterer has finished the rear seats. The front seats are stacked for him to take.

Vehicle number is 4882 have had the car for about 12 months sould be at paint stage by april just rebuilding suspension at the moment.
If it's 4882, we don't have it on Paul's register.

Hi Guys
Im new to M100 Group and can i say what a great project you have on the go, i have a 6.3 that im doing at the moment and have found all your tips very helpful keep up the good work i will be posting some pics sortly.
Cam shafts have been done and Wayne is doing some trial fitting of the rockers.

The motor has been bored, crank checked, heads checked and repaired, cams ground, ball studs made. Some of this is on the threads I have set up on M100.981 engines and the ball studs. Currently trial fitting of components is underway.









The timber is all wrapped up along with that from #4426 and my 300SE coupe and LWB Finnie, but we haven't freighted the package yet - too many things to do. At least it is finally in an appropriate box.
